HCL Verse 2.0.1 available on FlexNet

A new version of HCL Verse is available and again HCL is delivering great features:

  • HEAD Requests
    • Verse now supports HEAD requests for the endpoints /verse and /verse/checksession. This support may be needed by third party authentication providers that send HEAD requests to determine if a user is authenticated.
Note: Support for HEAD requests is required and must not be disabled on your server.
  • Configuring a Proxy for HCL Verse High Availability
    • Users and administrators expect Verse to be available 24×7. To achieve 24×7 availability, a high availability (HA) deployment is critical. In a HA deployment, Verse can be deployed across multiple mirrored Domino servers so that if one server is unavailable, users can be routed to another. We have created a Knowledge article on the HCL Customer Support site that describes a HA Verse deployment that leverages an F5 BIG-IP LTM virtual appliance to distribute requests across the Domino servers.

The goal of this article is to provide enough detail to a Domino administrator and network administrator familiar with HA systems that leverage proxies to design a Verse HA deployment within their own enterprise. For information, see Knowledge article: KB0084455

Also some fixes are included in Verse 2.0.1. See the complete listing in the official announcement.

Verse App on Android is not “respecting” security settings from the server

Today I had a call with a customer who complained that after an upgrade of the Verse App the user was forced either to enter a 8-pin password or a 6 character alphanumeric password.

The weird issue was that we forced the user only to have a 6 digit numeric password set on the device in the settings of the HCL Traveler server.

After opening a case at HCL we received the information that Google required changes to the Device administration for Android 10 and above devices.

There´s also an entry in the HCL Knowledge Base describing the complete issue.

Verse app 10.0.13.0 on Android is not syncing calendar entries after upgrade to Traveler 11

A question was asked on the HCL support forum ( https://bit.ly/3a2hiWt ) because after upgrading Traveler to V11 just calendar entries have not been synced to Android devices.

The cause has been located and will be fixed like mentioned as answer:

We have determined the cause of this issue and have a fix for it in the HCL Verse Android Google Play Store beta slot. We are beginning the production deployment of the fix via the Google PlayStore at this time which should complete by Wed Jan 15th. This issue can affect Verse Android client apps with versions from 10.0.11->10.0.13 and is fixed in the 11.0.0 version (202001092238) of the app.

If a single user is experiencing this issue, the simplest solution is to have them open the Verse App on their device and click the overflow menu in the upper right hand corner of the UI and select Tools->Replace Data and select “Mail and Calendar”. Once the Replace Data is complete, the issue will be resolved. For larger sets of users the suggestion above using “traveler reset” can be used.

If you want to reset all Android devices you can download an agent here:

Verse on Premises 1.0.9 – Feature

Today I upgraded our Domino environment to the latest versions ( Domino V11, Traveler V11 and also VoP 1.0.9 ). OK, it´s late, but I was sick last week – hopefully this is a legitimate excuse 😉

A nice feature in VoP 1.0.9 is this one:

VoP109

With this option you are able to change the password of your uploaded Notes ID inside the mail file and you can also see the installed version of VoP without having to use some “recalculation tables”:

Thanks a lot to the Dev Team !!

Feature list of Verse On-Premises 1.0.8

Today the feature list of VoP 1.0.8 was officially released and there are tremendous enhancements:

  • Enhancements to the calendar event design preview in 1.0.8
IBM Verse 1.0.8 provides the following enhancements to the calendar event design preview feature.
  • See names in your native language
In Verse 1.0.8, in work environments that use internationally-recognized names, your administrator may allow you to see names in their native languages and character sets. These are known as alternate names.
  • See your archived mail
In Verse 1.0.8, if you archive your mail to an archive database on a server using another client such as iNotes, or if your administrator archives your mail on a server for you, you can now open the archive mail file from the folder panel to see the archived messages.
  • More support for encrypted meeting notifications
There is additional support for encrypting meeting invitations and responses.
  • Font sizes are consistent with Notes and iNotes
In Verse 1.0.8, the font size is the same as the font size in Notes and iNotes. For example, Arial 14 is rendered the same size in Verse, Notes, and iNotes. Previously, the Verse font size was smaller.
  • Improved web browser experience enabled by default
An improved experience for users who access Verse from browsers on mobile devices is now enabled automatically.
  • New password and Notes ID features
In Verse 1.0.8, you can change the password that you use to log in to Verse, change your Notes ID password, and manage your Notes ID.
  • Server support for IBM i
Verse is now supported on a Domino 10.0.1 server running on IBM i version V7R2 or V7R3.

VoP 1.0.8 will be available in Q3/2019. You can get the complete informations about the new features on the official site here: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS4RQV_1.0.8/whats_new/whats_new_in_version_1.0.8.html

Some Verse Android users are getting locked out during initial setup on Android 8 and Android 9 devices

Due to some security updates in the Android 8 and Android 9 OS sometimes Verse users are locked out during the initial sync.

https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ibm10880753&myns=swglotus&mynp=OCSSYRPW&mync=E&cm_sp=swglotus-_-OCSSYRPW-_-E

In the latest Android security update changes were made that affect the response flow for Android’s Device Administrator capability. These changes are causing the Verse Android application to believe that the Device Administrator is not fully enabled and communicating this to the IBM Traveler server which is then locking out the users from further synchronization.

The error message the user may encounter might look similar to the following:
” Device Android_6216408d7fda7bb3 for User ID CN=USERXXXX is locked out for security reasons. Device security violation(s): Device Password, Wipe.”

If a user experiences this situation they should:

Open the Android Settings application and search on “device admin apps”
Tap on the result to open the “device admin apps” settings screen
Tap the IBM Verse Security entry and select Deactivate, to disable the IBM Verse device administrator temporarily.
Tap the IBM Verse Security entry and select Activate.

At this point the initial configuration that had been started will be removed and the user can launch the Verse app to go through initial configuration again and this time will be able to successfully complete the setup without being locked out.

IBM is working on updates to the Verse Android application to respond to this change in Android and will provide an updated version to resolve this issue shortly.

Great publications in the last days

IBM Verse on Premises 1.0.7 with the following enhancements:

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS4RQV_1.0.7/whats_new/whats_new_in_version_1.0.7_.html

  • Enhancements to importing internet calendar events
In this release, you can import internet calendar events from an .ics file that is attached to a mail message, in addition to importing from an .ics file on your computer. Also, using either import method, you can import up to 100 events from one .ics file. The previous limit was 50 events.
  • Original times shown when repeat meetings are rescheduled
When a repeat meeting is rescheduled, attendees see the original times followed by the new times when they open the reschedule notice.
  • Read messages marked as “Prevent copying” or “Keep Private”
When IBM® Notes® users and IBM iNotes® users send “private” messages that cannot be copied, IBM Verse® users can now read those messages. Previously, the messages could be read only through Notes or iNotes.
  • Attachment name used as message subject if no subject provided
If a new message with an attachment doesn’t include a subject, the attachment name (minus the file extension) is used as the subject. If the message has multiple attachments, the first attachment listed is used.
  • Option to download all attachments at once
When there are multiple attachments in a message, a Download All option is available to download all of them at once. Previously, you had to download each attachment separately.
  • Improved integration of forwarding addresses
When a person has a forwarding address – used to deliver mail to an external address – the person’s forwarding address and primary directory address can now both be shown.
  • Filter by unread messages after searching
You can now filter search results to show only unread messages. Previously, you could show unread messages only for the entire Inbox or an entire folder.
  • Clearer prompt to search directory when using typeahead
When you use typeahead in an addressing field to find names, the prompt to search the directory is clearer.
