I had the issue that I was not able to install the latest CR15 of HCL Connections 8 in a customer environment using the GUI of the Installation Manager.

I always received the following error message when validating the connection to the Deployment Manager:

CLFRP0005E: Cannot get SSL certificate from the Deployment Manager.

A recheck if the DMgr is running was successful. After a lot of debug sessions and adding custom properties to the WAS environment I received the following information from HCL Support that there´s a problem when using WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5 FP30 with the latest fix IFDT496796:

It has been appeared that when IBM Installation Manager (IIM) invokes WebSphere’s standard administrative utility (RetrieveSigners), WebSphere’s SOAP connector fails to deserialize the server’s certificate payload because WebSphere’s security filter blocks the standard Java JDK class
java.security.cert.Certificate$CertificateRep.

The fix for this problem will be included in WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5 FP31. There´s an interim fix IFDT499428-DUP0001 which is available here ( a valid IBM account is required ! ). If you also are facing this problem you can reference to HCL Case #CS1469292.

I will install the fix today and will check if the installation of CR15 is working like expected.
