Creating Backups with Domino V12 Beta3

With the newly released Beta3 of HCL Domino V12 ( the GA has been announced for June 7th 2021 ) it´s
quite easy to create backups without additional software.

First of all you have to upgrade your Domino Server to Beta3.
– I upgraded my Beta2 without any troubles to Beta3. So there´s no need to uninstall and reinstall !

Afterwards you have to create the Configuration Database by simply entering one command on the console of your Beta3 Server:

lo backup
[053762:000002-00007FF37D4EB0C0] 2021.03.31 09:39:32 Backup: Domino Database Backup
[053762:000002-00007FF37D4EB0C0] 2021.03.31 09:39:32 Backup: Started
[053762:000002-00007FF37D4EB0C0] 2021.03.31 09:39:32 Backup: Creating new Database ‘dominobackup.nsf’
[053762:000002-00007FF37D4EB0C0] 2021.03.31 09:39:32 Backup: New config database created, please review configuration before first backup [dominobackup.nsf]
[053762:000002-00007FF37D4EB0C0] 2021.03.31 09:39:32 Backup: Finished

Then you have to go through the “Global Configuration” to set the default parameters ( documentation ):

In this document you only have to add the Template Server:

Now you`re ready to configure your first Backup Job ( there are 2 example configurations included
in the dominobackup.nsf ):

You either copy over one of the existing or you create your own Backup Configuration. You can find the documentation of those steps here: https://bit.ly/2PHrG0j

I created the directories I used in my first Configuration Job manually and changed the owner to the user the Domino Server is running:

[root@domino /]# mkdir domino_backup
[root@domino /]# chown notes:notes domino_backup/

Then I created the first backup job and used the values from the Default Configuration for the Backup Tab:

And then I started my first backup with Domino V12 Beta3:

lo backup
